With no extra pain medication and only a little sedation medication to help her stay a little mellow, she has been amazing. She has not been able to speak (the tube is between her vocal cords so she can not make any sound), but has still been awesome at communicating with us. I have been able to make out most of her requests. They have to suction out her tube a few times per hour and although it makes her gag and feel the urge to cough (which looks so painful), she opens her mouth when they ask, even through her tears.
She has been begging for a drink with a straw, but has listen to me explain that we have to wait for the Doctors to say it's ok. Upon waking from surgery and feeling the tube for the first time, she did try to pull on it, but after I explained that she could not pull it out because it makes her feel better, we have not even had to use arm restraints. Can you imagine this behavior from a two year old? She has so much to try to understand and to suffer through, but every day she amazes me. It breaks my heart during the times she is scared or hurting, but I just hold her hand and try to talk her through it. I hope that these experiences at such a young age will not scar her or make her someone that she was not intended to be. I pray they will make her stronger for all the other challenges she will face in her lifetime. I pray she trusts Gilly and I and understand that we are here to help her and protect her even though sometimes she endures pain.
Here is a picture of Ry before she gets extubated today. We are praying that she is strong enough to breathe on her own.
Isn't she looking sassy today? She endured a bath and bed change yesterday evening that took almost an hour and a half. She did great and looks so much better.
Yesterday when Gilly was leaving for the aTm game. He handed Ry his tickets to look at. She DID NOT want to give them back. He didn't want to make her cry to get them back either. He eventually traded her for an old ticket stub and she held on to it most of the afternoon.

Andrea, God bless you and your continual strength in the Lord. I can not imagine the trials that you, Gilly and sweet Rylynn go through daily. But through it all you continue to keep your eyes on the Lord, what a beautiful example to others! Thank you so much for keeping us updated with all that you are doing in taking care of Rylynn. We will continue to pray for rest, strength and healing and a new heart! Thank you for staying strong, when I know it is difficult! Also, let Rylynn know if she really wants to see an awesome team, I'll take her to a UT game when she is able! :)
Seriously, what a blessing you are to her and to others.

I do not know you personally, but I used to work at Childrens and have been watching the documentary. Your strength and courage for your beautiful little girl is vey inspiring and I don't know how you are able to handle the tremendous stress you are under daily with the grace that you have shown! God is using you as an encouragement for others and I felt compelled to let you know that tonight. I will continue to pray for you, your husband and your adorable little girl!
I can't think of anything to say but to let you know that I am in AWE of your amazingly strong little fighter! You are all so loved and missed and prayed for. Praying for you rest and for that special angel heart. xoDusty&Cindy
Andrea
Rylynn's strength amazes me..seriously this kid is destined for GREAT things if she is able to handle all this without batting an eye. She deserves the medal of honor in my opinion.
I hope you get some sleep, I feel your pain on that one, it's impossible to function on little to no sleep and I can not imagine how much harder it is for you since you have MUCH more to deal with than I do on a daily basis. Hopefully you caught some ZZZ's last night, or can nap a bit today when she sleeps.
Good Luck today with the extubationb. I pray that she holds her own and does not need any more tubes for a long time.
Hang in there, and if you need anything let us know, we're happy to send anything you and Ry need.
-The Badings!
Today we'll be praying for sleep for Mama! What a trooper you have in Rylynn. I can't believe she is so good about opening her mouth for suctioning. She's amazing!
Andrea - I receive daily bible devotionals and I just wanted to share parts of this one with you - it was so inspiring!
From devotional:
“Jesus Heals a Little Girl.” Mark 5:21-43, And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet and begged Him earnestly, saying, "My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live." Mark 5:22-23 (NKJV)
Jairus was a ruler in the synagogue. He probably kept order in the assembly and made sure the Law was read on the Sabbath. He knew the Lord's power and recognized who He was. In his most desperate time, he sought none other than the Lord Jesus. Verse 23 says he "begged earnestly." Luke 8:41 adds "he fell down at Jesus' feet and begged." Without even having the New Testament, Jairus cast his cares on Jesus because He cares for him (1 Peter 5:7). And so he begged earnestly. Jairus asked that the Lord might lay His hands on his daughter that she might be healed. So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him. Mark 5:24 (NKJV)
Just like He is with you and me in our deepest valleys. He renews our strength so we can soar on wings like eagles (Isaiah 40:31).
In verses 25-34, While Jairus was waiting on his miracle, the Lord Jesus stopped to heal someone else along the way. Even Jairus had to learn patience. Her healing, however, was instant. And thus in the same passage, we see two healings - one that was instant, and one that was not. We do not know the path the Lord will choose for our healing. We need only trust that God will. Both of these are examples of faith. One had faith that Jesus would work healing in her life; the other had faith in the healing on behalf of a loved one. James 5:15 says: "The prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well." May we beg, as Jairus did. Jairus and the bleeding woman both came to the Lord Jesus knowing that He would heal. Faith can move mountains. In Luke 18:42, faith made the blind man well. We must pray. We must trust. We must wait on the Lord.
Jesus said to him, "Receive your sight; your faith has healed you." Luke 18:42
While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue's house who said, "Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?" Mark 5:35 (NKJV)
The world was trying to discourage Jairus. "Give up. It's over. Look at these circumstances. Woman, you've been bleeding for 12 years (v 25). You've spent all your wealth on the best doctors, cures, and procedures. You're getting worse. Give up." I see here discouragement of the world and discouragement of self. Again, when things are most hopeless, our Jesus shines the brightest. Jairus and the woman believed in the Lord Jesus when things looked their worst. Both were dead by the world's standards. But by faith in Jesus, perseverance and patience, there was healing. God's timing. He didn't heal a SICK girl. He raised a DEAD girl! Our Jesus is alive and still works miracles!
As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Do not be afraid; only believe." Mark 5:36 (NKJV)
Only believe! I will Lord, I will. "
